You turned my wailing into dancing;
you removed my sackcloth and clothed me with joy… Psalm 30:11
You turned my wailing into dancing;
you removed my sackcloth and clothed me with joy… Psalm 30:11
Emerging God, whose silence invites us to still our hearts,
Align our breath with yours this day, let this not simply be another Saturday of busyness. Help us to listen for your rhythm, expectant for the new life you are bringing. Create new patience in us, in the knowledge that your Loving Presence is bringing life to darkness. Quiet us to hear the one Word that sends clarity to every confusion. Come in the fullness of your gentle strength that we might decrease so you can increase. Amen.
Creator of Light, whose light shines in ordinary places,
We enter this day with silent snow, reminded to take a breath. Some of us are missing important events, and some of us are planning for future events. Help us all to stay present to you in this day. Expand the capacity of our hearts to receive your beams of love. Keep our feet on the path of this Lenten wilderness. Make any confusion or turmoil cease with one Word. Cast your light into our shadows and shine upon us again this day to renew the whole earth. Amen.
Divine Promise,
who generates strength within and amongst us,
Your Presence permeates the air we breathe, effortless on our part. You deliver us through a myriad of daily choices, some of which are less than faithful and still you bring forth beauty from our flaws. May our focus be on Love this day, assured only with your capacity to heal and restore every life in yours. Amen.
Living Mystery, who calls us to follow on unfamiliar paths,
We pause to breathe in this dawn of limitless beauty, and are reminded of the ways you provide for our comfort and peace. Keep us from complacency and give us
courage to find you in places of darkness and challenge. Move us to travel with you toward these unknown places. Help us realize that each step takes us to our true home, where our meaning and purpose for living is revealed. Amen.
Mark 1:16-17
Unknown Being, who creates and gives life,
How is it that the dawn’s last deep sigh opens this morning’s light? There is no pausing to take a breath, no learning to breathe, nor forgetting to breathe, only the constancy of the One giving and receiving. Just wait, just watch for it. When it seems there is no hope, there is in reality more Presence than we can take in. The shattering of our hearts is not to be feared. Those deep sighs coming from our depths, are already initiating the opening for the new day. Just wait, just watch for it. Amen.
Light of Love who shines upon the earth and enters every hopeful thought,
A new day dawns, and we pause to take in her lovely fresh scent, to breathe in the mystery of all that greets us. Remind us that even in our challenges, there are no shadows without light. Create in us an inner stillness to bring into this days activity. Increase our confidence that the loving Light holding us, radiates beyond to hold and carry others. Let the shadows we cast, be shadows filled with your Love. Amen.
Compassionate One, whose Sabbath is the crown of creation,
Make our breath today, a giving and receiving of love. Make each step today, an opportunity to experience your peace. Use our insignificance to further your glory. Empty us this Sabbath day as we wait, like a field lying fallow, for you to produce in us and expression of carefree, overflowing communion. Amen.
Sabbath as the crown of creation was first explored by German theolgian, Jurgen Moltmann.
Merciful One, who hears the cries of our suffering creation,
There are no words, only deep sighs. (deep sigh) We breathe in your loving power that overcomes all fear. (deep sigh) We breathe in your Self-giving nature that transforms all disorder. (deep sigh) We breathe in your redeeming Presence now. Soak our hearts and minds with all that establishes sincere communities ready to seriously look to the needs of others rather than striving after our own security and desire. Remind us once again that we live under your cross, not above it. Amen.
Merciful Goodness,
who vibrancy and healing beauty comes out of the dark earth,
Exhausted, we come, entering into your Presence after wandering in the wilderness. When our failures and limitations are exposed, help rid them of any power to hold us back from you. Feed us once again with “what’s this?“ manna, your precious bread from heaven. Shape us into a trusting community. As we center our whole lives on your Presence, make us able to hear our neighbor’s breath and feel the pulse of life in our sisters and brothers beside us. You are the Other upon whom all relationships build. Amen.
