Give Completely

Hearts of Stone

She-Mystery, who gives herself away completely,
In this challenging season, we breathe, we pray, we serve others.  Make us not forget, however, that an important part of our work is to accept the Love you offer.  Help us not even try to make sense of it, only open our eyes to watch for it and open our hearts to receive it.  We don’t want a feel good story on Easter, we want you to turn our hearts from stone into bread that brings life for the world.  Amen.

1 Kings 17: 12
But she said, “As the Lord your God lives, I have nothing baked, only a handful of meal in a jar, and a little oil in a jug; I am now gathering a couple of sticks, so that I may go home and prepare it for myself and my son, that we may eat it, and die.”

2018

The ending of a  year of fullness and emptiness,

some seconds lasted an eternity and some weeks passed by in a blink.

A horrible year of watching newscasts filled with human misery, then,

to notice a simple reflection on my windshield could take my breath away.

Days when the seniors around me and the youngest children brought the same joy.

When family and good friends surrounded my heart with love

And when aloneness permeated my soul .

Some trees have been pruned and stand strong,

while quercus rubra fell into a million pieces.

My tears have fallen as heavy as the rains

and laughter tumbled over itself like the swollen brooks.

Music has stirred me, given me hope, and

memory of old, forced me to the ground of my grief.

This year will move into next year,

shaping the time that is to come,

imagining that much will be repeated,

ever more reminding me that I am alive still.

Creative Peace

IMG_2249

Holy God, who enlivens each new beginning,
Soak in the stillness of this summer morning. Listen and learn from the choir of crickets, or one gentle birdsong or the growing hum of vehicles. As your gaze swallows in the loveliness around you, remember that the unseen stars still exist. Simply wait for Oneness, then fully entrained with all that is, go out and saturate our world with your creative ways of peace. Amen.

Make every effort to live in peace with everyone. Hebrews 12:14

Gardener of our Future

Gardener of Glory

Gardener of Glory, who allows the weeds to grow alongside the fruit,
Return us to the earth. Remind us through your silent Presence that we work alongside you. Use our bare hands to till the soil of our hearts. Give us courage and strength to remove the weeds that keep us from maturity. Help us to cultivate what you are growing anew in us. Take us to the deep, dark, rich places where we find our fears transformed into branches for our future. As we labor together,  bring into focus the beauty of all that you are creating. Amen.

Matthew 13:24-30

Open to Mystery

DSC05067.JPG

Holy One, whose strength is present in this moment,
We inhale all that is good and are renewed. We exhale releasing the love and mercy you have given, into our world. When we face grief and pain, deliver us into a mystery that is larger than we can imagine. Shape our unique identities us as we navigate the complexities of faithful living. Keep our hearts open to you so that we can find rest and peace. Strengthen us for this day with your breath of life.  Amen.

Do you not know your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, who you have received from God?                                                                          1 Corinthians 6:19

Transforming Life

DSC05024.JPG

Stream of Light, who pierces the dark to awaken us,
No matter what lays heavy on this day, show us the new possibilities in it. Breathe your peace into our struggle. Broaden our perspective not to exclude our anxieties but to see their gifts in our depths. Release the hushed sorrow within for our inadequacies, our doubts, and vacillating tendencies. Remind us that you bring new life out of nothingness; that your Presence and power transform our sadness to joy. Amen.

You turned my wailing into dancing;
you removed my sackcloth and clothed me with joy…      Psalm 30:11

Take Notice

creatorofseasons

Creator of Seasons, whose fullness is revealed in time,
We breathe with gratitude for another day, and hope that you will help us to notice something new. In the beauty of a fading bloom, in the tenacity of a creatures web, there is wisdom and knowledge that we too often pass by. Included in this day, you provide what is needed to relieve every anxiety. Whenever we feel lost, uncertain and abandoned, open us to imagine your goodness. Amen.

Bearing Fruit

Orchard Grower, who cultivates beauty amongst all the thorns,
We pause to receive all you pour out upon us through creation; the soft Spring air, the call of songbirds, the fruiting trees… Make us mindful of these gifts. Give us patience to wait upon your timing for whatever is not yet revealed. Help us to accept the wisdom of your ways. Bring us to places of expectant hope. Remind us that the fruit of your Presence feeds us all. Amen.

Noticing Love

Violets

Living Strength, who overcomes the impossible,
We began this new day just as we do every day. Break open our resistance to your love with each breath. Flow freely into and out of our hearts. No matter what the challenge, help us to notice the life seeping out of the hardened spaces in our lives, in our world. Stir us to see all that you offer that goes unnoticed. Make us like you, aiming always to look more toward others than ourselves to realize emerging gifts. Amen.

Unfolding Truth

unfolding

Unfolding Truth, who often is hidden in desolate places,
Lead us to further knowledge of your ways in this moment of quiet. Help us to do nothing in order to find everything; not to squander our precious time, but to allow you to reveal the rhythm of our steps for this day. Comfort all who are dealing with unknown futures. Restore our hope in finding the way that imparts life out of death. Remind us of your goodness. Amen.
